Making the healthy choice, the easy choice

Healthy By Design is an initiative of the Alliance, which was formed by RiverStone Health, Billings Clinic and St. Vincent Healthcare (now Intermountain Health) in 2000 to address community issues.

Healthy By Design currently focuses its efforts on:

Spreading community health messages including 5-2-1-0 and trauma-informed practices
Increasing the availability and affordability of nutritious food
Fostering social connections to reduce mental health issues
Promoting safety through a functional, interconnected transportation system for all users
Addressing differences in health outcomes based on gender, age, place, and more

Gardeners’ Market

Healthy By Design Gardeners’ Market runs 4-6 p.m. on Thursdays from early June through early October in South Park. The market does not charge farmers and backyard gardeners a fee to sell their produce, making their fruits and vegetables more affordable for all shoppers. To reserve space, vendors must attend a short training.

The market accepts WIC Vouchers, SNAP, double SNAP dollars and senior coupons. In addition to fresh produce from local vendors, the market features entertainment and other community resources.

Community Health Improvement Internship

The intern will work with staff and Healthy By Design Coalition members to improve the health of Yellowstone County. Projects focus on prevention and education and includes work on the Gardeners’ Market.
