About MFMR

Welcome to Montana Family Medicine Residency

Welcome to the Montana Family Medicine Residency (MFMR) in Billings, MT!

MFMR, the first family medicine residency in Montana, has been shaping healthcare for nearly 30 years. Located in Billings, the state’s largest city with 120,000 residents, we collaborate with major medical systems, including RiverStone Health, Intermountain Health St. Vincent Hospital, Billings Clinic, and the Veterans Administration.

Our continuity clinic, housed at RiverStone Health Clinic, is a remodeled, state of the art, federally qualified health center (FQHC) and offers comprehensive outpatient care.

Billings is a family-friendly city with plenty of outdoor activities, including hiking, biking and skiing at nearby Red Lodge Mountain. The stunning Beartooth Mountains and Yellowstone National Park are just a short drive away.

What truly sets our program apart is our supportive faculty and diverse residents. We emphasize training in frontier medicine and offer rural training opportunities and engagement with Native American populations. Our community hosts regular social events, fostering a family-like atmosphere.

We offer specialized tracks including Wilderness Medicine, Obstetrics and Public Health and Advocacy. If you’re interested in learning full-spectrum family medicine with us under Montana’s Big Sky, we’d love to hear from you!

Welcome from the Wellness Lead Residents

We welcome you to join our community at MFMR and see what Billings has to offer. We strive to create a supportive environment with our faculty, residents, and staff. As your wellness leads, we support both physical and mental health in and outside of residency. The residency offers an independent counselor, who provides confidential counseling for our residents. We continue to promote resident wellness through organized events and dinners as well as provide resources and a safe space for sharing ideas. Billings and the surrounding Montana areas are filled with new places to explore for camping, hiking, dining, and winter sports. Please reach out as we are happy to answer any questions you may have as you navigate through residency applications.
