Welcome to the RiverStone Health APP Residency!

Are you a newly graduated NP or PA looking to build your skills in comprehensive primary care?

Our program is designed for you to build a foundation in comprehensive primary care at a supportive Teaching Health Center.

We offer hands-on training in pediatrics, adult, and geriatric care, with a special focus on substance use disorders, mental illness and care for under-resourced patients and families.

We want you to gain the tools to succeed in delivering high-quality, patient-centered and compassionate care in urban and rural Montana, and develop skills that build confidence and resilience that will last your entire career.

Residents work alongside dedicated faculty and staff who are deeply invested in mentorship and personalized learning.

APPs who complete RiverStone Health’s APP Residency program will spend one year in a supportive and collaborative Teaching Health Center that exposes them to evaluation, care and treatment of complex patients who benefit from a wide range of primary health care services provided in a variety of settings.

Our program provides residents a solid foundation in general pediatric, adult and geriatric primary care with a special focus on high-risk patient populations, substance use disorders, mental illness, and care for under-resourced patients and families.

About RiverStone Health

RiverStone Health began as the Public Health Department for Yellowstone County and the cities of Billings and Laurel in 1974.

In 1984, the RiverStone Health Clinic (then Deering Clinic) began as a Federally Qualified Health Center that provides care to all patients regardless of their ability to pay in Yellowstone and Carbon Counties.

In 1994, Montana Family Medicine Residency became the first Family Medicine Residency in Montana.

As a Teaching Health Center with a focus on building the healthcare workforce for Montana, RiverStone Health also houses the Eastern Montana Area Health Education Center.

In 2026, RiverStone Health launched the first Advanced Practice Provider Residency in the state of Montana.  


The Clinic sees 14,000 patients a year and has a skilled team of providers, staff, clinical pharmacists and behavioral health professionals who work together to provide comprehensive, compassionate care for the community.
