HPV Education

The HPV Immunization Project is a nationwide effort to increase HPV vaccination rates. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funds the project through the National AHEC Organization to train health professionals about the importance of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine.  The Eastern Montana Area Health Education Center at RiverStone Health is the coordinator for the NAO/HPV grant for Montana.

Studies consistently show that a strong recommendation from a healthcare provider is the single best predictor of vaccination. A clinician’s recommendation is the Number One reason parents decide to protect their children with vaccinations.

The best and most effective way to recommend the HPV vaccination is when it is introduced in the same way and the same day as other vaccines recommended for girls and boys at ages 11 and 12.

CDC resources for health professionals include handouts, Power Point presentations and a video series that includes information on how clinicians can help parents understand the importance of HPV vaccination and how healthcare providers can answer questions about vaccination safety.
